Working with The Wanderer

Our archetypes are companions who travel with us. As our lives and seasons change, so may the ones we need. Take what speaks to you today.

You Might Notice…

Sometimes the Wanderer first appears as restlessness. You rearrange the furniture, change a color you’ve lived with happily for years, reorganize a cupboard, or find yourself looking for something new without being able to say what you’re looking for. Nothing is necessarily wrong. You may simply feel uncomfortable in a life that still looks perfectly fine from the outside. Before you dismiss the feeling as boredom—or decide the living room needs rearranging again—notice it. The Wanderer may be asking for change before you know what kind of change you need.

One Small Step…

Once you’ve noticed the restlessness, give it somewhere to go. Choose one small thing that takes you outside your usual pattern. Drive home a different way. Visit the little shop you’ve passed a dozen times. Order something you’ve never tried, pick up the book that keeps catching your eye, take the beginner class even though you have no intention of becoming good at it. It doesn’t have to be productive, practical, or lead anywhere. In fact, that’s rather the point. Give yourself permission to follow one small curiosity simply because you’re curious. Then notice what happens—not just what you discover, but how you feel while you’re discovering it.

Something To Think About

After you’ve given yourself permission to wander a little, notice what stays with you. What made you curious enough to keep looking? What gave you a little spark of energy, or made you wonder, Why haven’t I done more of this? And pay attention to the restlessness, too. Is it really asking you to change something—or is it asking you to make room for something that has been missing? You don’t need to figure it all out. The Wanderer’s job isn’t to hand you the destination. Sometimes she simply helps you notice which direction feels more alive.

A Wanderer Affirmation

I don’t need to know where it leads to follow what calls to me.
